Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the City of Portland canna lily rhizomes from Amaryllis & Caladium Bulb Co superior?

Our team hand-selects large, healthy rhizomes containing 3 to 5 active eyes. This ensures faster establishment and fuller blooming capacity compared to standard retail bulbs.

When is the best time to plant canna lily rhizomes outdoors?

Canna lilies should be planted in the spring after all danger of frost has passed and soil temperatures reach at least 60°F.

How deep should these canna rhizomes be planted?

Plant rhizomes horizontally about 2 to 4 inches deep with the eyes or growing points facing upward, spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.

Can City of Portland canna lilies be grown in containers?

Yes. These medium-height cannas perform exceptionally well in large patio pots and planters. They must receive full sun and consistent moisture.

How should canna bulbs be cared for during cold winter months?

In colder climates, dig up the rhizomes after the first autumn frost, let them dry slightly, and store them in a cool, dark, frost-free space until spring replanting.
